Billed as “Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard,” the concert taping is also scheduled to include performances by John Mellencamp, Dierks Bentley, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr., the Avett Brothers, Alison Krauss, Ronnie Dunn, Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lucinda Williams, John Anderson, Connie Smith and Bobby Bare.
April 6 would have been Haggard’s 80th birthday and also marks the one-year anniversary of his death.
Ben Haggard, the Country Music Hall of Fame’s son and a longtime band member, will join Don Was and Buddy Cannon as musical directors for the concert. Additional performers to be announced in the coming weeks.
The event was announced by Haggard’s family, Willie Nelson and Blackbird Presents, a media company that has produced and recorded similar concert tributes to Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennnigs, Gregg Allman, John Lennon and Jerry Garcia.
Tickets to the Haggard tribute go on sale Friday (March 3) via Ticketmaster and the Bridgestone Arena box office.
