Luke Bryan’s 13 Mispronunciations of Gyro

Jimmy Fallon Is No Help At All

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the word gyro is pronounced “yee-roh.” It rhymes with hero.

So the “g” is completely silent. But that didn’t stop Luke Bryan and Jimmy Fallon from getting completely loud about it.

They actually came up with an entire song about it, called, “I Don’t Know How to Pronounce Gyro.”

And in the video that aired on Monday’s (March 13) Tonight Show , Bryan and Fallon had these 13 possible pronunciations.

Guys whoa
Gwy ro
Guy roll
Ga hee ro
Why go
Hi hos
Gui hoe
Gwi whoh
Hy wroll
Jia roll
Jhai woe

The song featured Bryan singing about growing up in Georgia, thinking he’d learned everything he needed to know. Except that one thing.

I was born in southwest Georgia
Always tried to make my daddy proud
But of all the things I learned there
I never learned how to say that word out loud

I just want something to eat
Made with a vertical rotisserie of lamb meat.

I can’t believe I don’t know how to say it
I eat so many that you’d really think I would

Ultimately, the song ends with the gyro chef telling them how to say it properly. But by then Bryan has changed his order to “shishkeboob” and “hoomus.”
