Thomas Rhett on the Roller Coaster of Adoption

"We're Finally Over That Hump," He Shares

While Thomas Rhett is busy out on the road with his Home Team Tour, his wife Lauren Akins is busy getting ready for their babies.

Yes, babies. Akins is pregnant with the couple's first baby, and they are also in the process of adopting a baby from Africa.

And Rhett admitted in a recent radio interview that that process has its ups and downs.

"The process of adopting someone from a different country is really, really strenuous, and you find out a lot about yourself," he said.

"When you're over there and you and your wife are staying in a hotel room for a month and a half and you wake up, and you think you're going to get some news and you don't get it, or you don't think you're going to get some news and you do get it. That's really the best way I can describe the adoption process: an emotional roller coaster."

But the outcome, he said, is worth all of that.

And proving that he and Akins are stand-up people and can support the child is something he gets.

"I understand how tough they make it for you to see how bad you really want it, but it is very hard. But we're finally over that hump and cannot wait to get our child home."

There is no exact date for that homecoming, but Akins' baby is due in August.

Thomas Rhett has a few days off this week before heading back out on the road on Thursday (March 23) for a show in Knoxville.
