I felt like Hunter Hayes had been noticeably quiet for a bit, and I missed him.
Many of my friends did, too, always asking me, “Hey, have you heard anything about Hunter Hayes’ new music?” I hadn’t, but I knew he wasn’t just relaxing. My instincts told me Hayes was cooking up something great for his hungry fans.
Because creative types never rest. They’re always thinking ahead to the next vision, the next project or the next lyric or melodic hook, They’re always in tune to the music.
My instincts didn’t fail me.
Hayes was working on all of those things, readying himself for a move away from his past and into his future. He couldn’t have done it more perfectly than he did with “Yesterday’s Song,” a new track that takes him to the next level artistically, largely because he really let go and let life in.
“I’ve been learning how to let go and just let the process be — not overthinking every little thing, which is something I’m really good at,” Hayes admits.
“I’ve been experimenting with new sounds and stretching myself creatively more than ever before and just embracing life, which I think you can really hear in these songs.”
And you can see it in this just-released video. Directed by Ryan Hamblin, it takes us through visuals representing stages of Hayes’ past musical career before a twist — a shattered disco ball – lets us know the party is over. It’s out with the old and in with the new for an ever-evolving artist.
See and hear for yourselves. Hot and fresh out of the kitchen, here’s “Yesterday’s Song.”
