Jon Pardi Revels in Alan Jackson Praise

Why the “Closer to Country” Meant So Much

Just when he needed it most, Alan Jackson heaped some praise on Jon Pardi and really turned his thinking around.

What Jackson had said when Pardi was opening for him a couple years ago was, “Of all the new guys I’ve heard, I like that Jon is closer to country than most of the others and I thought his songwriting was better than what I’ve heard in a while.”

Those kind words meant so much to Pardi because he hadn’t been having the best stretch of his career.

“The Alan Jackson quote came at a time when I really needed it. It was 2015. It was in between records. We didn’t have any singles,” Pardi told Tulsa World.

“And when I read that, it was like an honor that one of my heroes would say that about me. It was really cool. That kind of got me pumped up to go back and write ’California Sunrise’ and work on that record,” he added.

Pardi will continue collecting compliments as he opens a few more shows for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, then hits the road as part of Dierks Bentley’s string of summer shows.
