If you heard anyone call country newcomer Brett Young by his nickname Pam, you’d definitely want to hear the story behind it.
So here goes.
“My very first tattoo was a crown of thorns around my upper left arm that I have since gotten covered up,” Young said in a recent radio interview, “because I got it right before Pamela Anderson came out with Barb Wire. That’s pretty fun — my senior year in baseball being called Pam.”
Anderson played the lead role Barbara “Barb Wire” Kopetski in the 1996 action film. Had the movie been a big hit, Young might have felt differently about his tattoo, but it was a box-office bomb.
Even after covering that ink up, though, Young has gone on to add to his tattoo menagerie.
“It wasn’t until five years down the road when I got one on my ribs, I was in Singapore and I got my last name underneath my heart,” he said, “and I remember it like it almost felt good. And I went, ‘Oh that’s weird.’ And ever since then, the process of getting tattooed is something I enjoy.”
The “Sleep Without You” and “In Case You Didn’t Know” singer says that he’s not addicted to ink, but it does feel good to know that he has checked that box.
