Sammy Kershaw
Remember when
Keith Urban did a cover of "Romeo's Tune," the huge 1980
pop hit from Steve Forbert? At the time, I didn't get it. Then I heard it. Loved it. And I became a big believer in country
singers reinventing songs from my youth. That's how I feel today after having listened to
Sammy
Kershaw's new take on "The Cover of the Rolling Stone." It's on his new CD,
Better
Than I Used to Be, that was released on Tuesday (Aug. 31). The original Dr. Hook version of the song was a fixture
on my record player before I was even old enough for my mom to let me buy the actual magazine. Kershaw brought
Jamey
Johnson in for this brilliant duet, which was written by the late Shel Silverstein. It is all good from beginning to end.
So good, in fact, I think you'll want to buy five copies for your mother.
