I may not know exactly how many CMA Awards big-time nominee Miranda Lambert will be carrying home Wednesday night (Nov. 10), but I do know what she'll be wearing when she's up onstage. Her dress designer, Sherri Hill, just called and told me a little bit about the four dresses she got ready for Lambert. Hill has been doing this evening attire thing for about 20 years and has dressed country stars before, including Kellie Pickler, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood. So she's no rookie. But, still, she told me she was thrilled when Lambert's stylist came to her New York showroom to do some shopping.
"She came during fashion week," Hill said. "She had some ideas, and she just knows what fits Miranda so well. So we looked around and found some things that work with her personality. And we made some custom changes. Like she liked the bodice of one dress but wanted me to change out the skirt to be shorter with a fringe."
Then when Lambert was playing in Oklahoma, where Hill is based, she brought some things out to the venue so Lambert could try them all on.
When I pressed for specific details about the dresses (Clingy or slouchy? Floor-length or micro-mini? Solids or patterns? Silk or cotton?), all Hill said was, "She is branching out a little." So at least we know it won't be just another collection of little black dresses.
