Technically, it was an Eagles concert. But I was there for one reason and one reason only: to see my beloved Dixie Chicks come back together for a Chicago show in June. It was a show I thought I'd never get to see again since the girls in the trio had all kind of gone off in separate directions. (Had I known, by the way, that their show in August of 2006 might have been their last, I would not have ordered that fourth glass of whiskey.) At this summer's show, the skies were blue and the sun was out as if to shine a light on the powerhouse country band. It was well worth that four-year wait. And because they had no new singles or albums to promote, it was vintage Chicks music for an entire hour. All songs that I knew by heart, belted out as if Natalie Maines had paid me to be her front-of-house harmony singer. Definitely a bucket-list night for me.
