It took about 20 minutes for Gwyneth Paltrow to be funny on this past weekend's Saturday Night Live. After her opening monolog that attempted to poke fun of her superficial knowledge of country music when she claimed, "I've really come to love it. I really, really immersed myself in it, and it became my life," I thought her hosting gig was doomed to be full of cliches about the genre. But then she saved herself by imitating Taylor Swift during a Bar Mitzvah skit. "Y'all are awesome. I'm a foot taller than the tallest man here," Paltrow-Swift said. Then she launched into "You Belong With Me" with a Jewish twist. "She's in a synagogue with her clear braces on/Sittin' shiva with no mirror to put make up on/She doesn't get your Mel Brooks humor like I do/She wears Macy's, and I wear Loehmann's/She wears Filene's, and I wear Filene's Basement/Can't you see she's just a J.A.P. ... not like Japanese." It is so funny on so many levels and once again showcases Paltrow's singing voice even when she's just going for a laugh.
