Well, I guess I'd better go buy a fishing rod. And a reel. And a tackle box full of bait, hooks, bobbers, lures and other things that help you get the job done. Because if you ask Trace Adkins, that is the way to get close (and stay close) to your kids. His new song, "Just Fishin'," makes you stop whatever mundane thing you're doing and give in to this urgent and overwhelming desire to create some memories with your kids. Or just talk to them. Yes, the laundry has to get folded and the lunches prepared and the permission slips signed. But still. Adkins makes me think that a day of fishing here and there could really be more important. "She ain't even thinkin' bout what's really goin' on right now/But I guarantee this memories a big'in, and she thinks we're just fishin'," he sings. While country's always been good with the I-love-fishing songs, thanks to Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and Tim McGraw, this time the song admits that fishing isn't always about what you catch and throw back. Sometimes it's about the conversations in between.
