Eddie Cibrian, LeAnn Rimes' husband, has a new show premiering Monday night (Sept. 19). It's called The Playboy Club. And this morning, he was on Today to defend (and I guess, promote) the show, because there has been some controversy surrounding the series. The Parents Television Council, a group that advocates responsible entertainment and promotes broadcast decency rules, has been pretty vocal about how the show is no good. Cibrian obviously doesn't agree, and said to Today host Matt Lauer, "Playboy, in general, the brand, has been steeped in controversy since its inception. But what I don't really understand is that they've never seen our show, and our show is not about the proliferation of the Playboy empire. It's completely based around the Playboy Club. I don't know why there is this kind of controversy." The Playboy Clubs, kind of elite members-only nightclubs that have been around since the '60s and are staffed by Bunnies, is the setting for the new series. Lauer asked if it was true that the show is kind of Mad Men meets The Godfather, but Cibrian disagreed with that comparison. So I guess we will just have to put the kids to bed early and watch for ourselves to see what all the fuss is about.
