It seems like just yesterday that President Obama was quoting Dierks Bentley. It was actually two and a-half years ago. He said, and I quote, "Dierks Bentley calls it [country music] the best shrink $15 can buy." It was at a White House music series concert. (When I told Bentley about that quote the next day, he'd told me, "That is so badass. Way awesome. To have the president of the United States quote you? It is unreal.") And Monday night (Nov. 21), Bentley actually headed to Washington himself to perform for the president at a PBS special called Country Music: In Performance at the White House. It airs Wednesday night (Nov. 23). "Standing in the East Room of the White House last night rehearsing 'Home' was a surreal feeling. No matter who you vote for or what you believe, it is one of the greatest symbols of our country. It is our nation's 'Home," he said. Bentley performed along with Lyle Lovett, James Taylor, The Band Perry, Alison Krauss & Union Station and others.
