I don't know how this college admissions thing works for celebs. But if it's at all like it is for regular people, then I'm thrilled for Scotty McCreery that he's been accepted to at least one of the schools he applied to. (East Carolina University, home to the enrolled-for-a-while Sandra Bullock). He admitted, though, there are still some schools out there he hasn't heard from. Like North Carolina State University. "Well, I've applied. I've gotten into East Carolina. That's the first place that I've heard back from today. I've applied to North Carolina State, as well. Also, Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State. We'll see where I end up, but we're not certain yet," McCreery said in a recent interview about life since his American Idol win. NCSU may be a little tougher to get into than ECU because their average ACT score from incoming freshman is somewhere in the 23 to 29 range. That said, NCSU is one of the colleges that will superscore your ACT -- meaning they'll take the highest subscores on reading, math, science and English, from different test dates to get a newer, higher score. McCreery seems like he's pretty smart, so I'm guessing NCSU would love to have him. If it feels like I know way too much about college admissions, it's because I do. I have a daughter on the verge of starting her college search, so knowing all this has become like a second job for me. And don't even get me started on tuition costs and high school rankings and AP credits. I wish McCreery all the best, wherever he ends up studying.
