Everyone looked gorgeous. That's my standard answer about the red carpet, usually because it's true, especially when country stars are walking it. But when Jake Owen stopped to talk Sunday night (April 1) on the red carpet at the ACM Awards, he had some insightful things to say about the way women take the fashion so seriously. "Guys are guys, man," he told me. "They walk up and down this carpet and they're just like, 'What's up, dude?' Not one guy is ever like, 'Man, I love that suit or boots or shoes your wearing.' But I've been watching, and there's a lot of catty women around here. A lot of girls look at other girls. And the instant they see them, they do the up and down, and they're like, 'What kind of dress does she have on? What kind of shoes is she wearing?'" I explained that it's not always that women are catty. Sometimes we're just eyeing another girl's outfit out of envy. Owen had picked out his own suit (taupe and very simple and classy, I have to say), and his stylist helped his girlfriend Lacey Buchanan find her stunning white gown. "Lacey looks pretty in whatever she wears. We were out last night, and she was in a T-shirt and jeans, and I told her I like her best looking like that." Owen hadn't spent any time gambling while he was in Las Vegas, other than a little bet on the golf course with Darius Rucker. "Why would I want to be walking around a casino when I could be alone with Lacey?" he said. "I'm not an idiot."
