Miranda Lambert was too busy wiping her tears away to sing, but her fans were there for her in Kansas on Saturday night (April 14). The Wichita crowd sang the entire first verse of "The House That Built Me" without Lambert, who was too choked up to sing. By the time they got to the part about how mama cut out pictures of houses for years, Lambert was able to finally join the crowd singalong. Why so sad? Some very severe weather was moving through the area, so Lambert had to stop the show just a few songs into her set. (Later that night, the National Weather Service reported the tornado that came through Wichita was an EF-3 with winds of up to 165 mph.) And when it was safe for Lambert to hit the stage again, she told the fans how heartbroken she would be if her childhood home was ever destroyed. Hence, the tears and the perfect segue into her hit song about treasuring the memories that live inside the houses that build us all.
