When Justin Moore says he's playing a lot of fairs this summer, you picture him on stage. Right? Well, yes and no. When he and his wife Kate bring their daughters Ella and Kennedy on the road, "playing the fairs" also means playing a lot of carnival games.
"Kate brought the girls out for a week, and my oldest daughter, who's two and a half now, loves the fairs. I've won her so many Dora the Explorer blow-up dolls, it's just unbelievable. I'm the best at the basketball games, and thankfully I'm a good shot. I always win by the third or fourth try," he told me last week. He also said Ella is obsessed with riding the ponies, and eating the hot dog out of the corn dogs.
But this week, the Moores are all leaving the touring schedule behind and heading for a family reunion in Destin, Fla.
"It's good for our family, my voice and my sanity," he said. He plans on golfing, building sandcastles with Ella, sitting on the beach and "eating a bunch of seafood and drinking some beers."
I asked if he was an iPod-on-the-beach kind of guy and he said no: "I try to get as far away from the music as I possibly can. But if I listen to anything, it's just old country and Southern rock."
