Kellie Pickler's best friend has breast cancer. And she starts chemotherapy Thursday (Sept. 6). There's no Hallmark card for that. No casserole you can make. And maybe no prayer powerful enough to make it all go away. But Pickler proved you can show your commitment by shaving your head. So Tuesday, Pickler and her pal Summer Holt Miller (who was diagnosed in June and recently had a double mastectomy), buzzed off their hair. "I'm going ahead and shaving my head the Tuesday before [chemotherapy] because I was told that it was mentally much easier to do it this way than to wake up with hair on my pillow," Miller wrote on her Caring Bridge website. "I'm really not that apprehensive about shaving my head. It is hair, and it will grow back." (She also writes about how she felt when she first heard the news that forever changed her life: "Mrs. Miller, I'm so sorry, but you have breast cancer.")
"Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler said, nearly quoting Martina McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It." And then it was off with all that long blond hair. And, hopefully, someone was playing Pickler's own "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" when the two gorgeous and courageous women first looked in the mirror.
