As Carrie Underwood closed 20/20: All Access Nashville with Katie Couric on Friday night (Oct. 26), she admitted that even though she'd come into country music the American Idol way, she said, "I grew up with country music in my heart." She talked about how country music's own heart was the voice. "The women of country make for one powerful chorus of inspiration," she said as she started in on a love list among country's leading ladies.
Darius Rucker loves Patsy Cline ("When I was in college, I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me. And she broke up with me and I went and I put on 'She's Got You' about 37 times in a row and cried the whole time."); Martina McBride loves Loretta Lynn, Little Big Town loves McBride ("The singer of all singers"); Luke Bryan loves Reba McEntire, Jason Aldean loves Dolly Parton; and Brad Paisley and Lauren Alaina love Underwood.
The show even asked the two stars of the new show Nashville who their favorite girl singers were. Connie Britton said, "An artist who I have just been inspired by and loved my whole life is Bonnie Raitt. She transcends all different kinds of music." And Hayden Panettiere said she'd probably have to go with Miranda Lambert. "She's got that edge that I relate to," she said. "But she also has those amazingly heartfelt songs and those beautiful lyrics."
