I think Kacey Musgraves is too humble. She is a brand new country singer, and her very first release made it onto Rolling Stone's 50 Best Songs of 2012 list. So she has definitely earned the right to toot her own horn. And yet she told CMT Radio that the song "Merry Go 'Round" came naturally. "You know, some you really deliberate over and really work on. But this one -- once we wrapped our brains around the idea of the song -- it seemed to literally write itself. It was one of the quickest songs I've ever been a part of writing, and I want to say it was maybe an hour and a-half, and we were done," she said of writing with Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally. "I was crying and singing the work tape. We thought we had stumbled upon something really cool." And now Rolling Stone calls the tune "a bleak-but-clever take on small-town inertia and ennui" and "gorgeous." And they call Musgraves country's "next big thing."
