Carrie Underwood put it so simply. "There
are no words," she tweeted after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., on Friday (12/14). Twenty children and six faculty
members at Sandy Hook Elementary school were shot and killed by gunman Adam Lanza before he killed himself. Country artists
-- along with the rest of us -- shared their heartfelt prayers and sentiments and questions with the world via Twitter and
Facebook. Underwood's complete tweet was, "All my thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the families in CT dealing
with this tragedy. There are no words."
Taylor Swift wrote,
too, saying, "I'm heartsick about the senseless tragedy in CT and praying for the families of the children and teachers who
lost their lives. Unthinkable."
Tim McGraw took three tweets to
string his thoughts together. "The news of this morning's shooting was simply devastating. As parents, Faith and I cannot
even imagine the horror that all of these families face. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with all that have been affected
by this tragedy," he wrote.
And Luke Bryan asked the world to
pray for Connecticut, and wrote, "My family is sending the deepest prayers out to those victims in Connecticut today. Heavy
hearts and tears."
Keith Urban, too, was sending his prayers
out. "My heart goes out to all those affected by the tragedy in Connecticut. Thoughts and prayers with everyone," he wrote.
Blake Shelton's response was a patriotic one. "Stand strong and stand
united everyone. ... We are Americans and we are better than this. What a sad sad disgusting day this is," he said. And his
wife Miranda Lambert wrote, "I'm praying for those babies and all
the victims of the Connecticut shooting. May God bring peace to the families."
Brad
Paisley sounded equally angry and emotional in his response. "I spent 15 minutes yelling at the top of my lungs about
what happened in Connecticut," he wrote. "I'm as mad as I am sad. Enough. Enough!!!!!!"
