I wish I could recap the American Idol finale with tales of cat fights and eye rolls and backstage drama. But Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, the last two contestants vying for the title on Thursday's (May 16) American Idol finale, were just too nice. It's like they had some kind of "no divas allowed" rule. For starters, they were holding hands through most of the would-be tense parts. And they smiled genuinely at each other until the bitter end when Glover was named the new American Idol. Then they were even arm in arm, forehead to forehead, when Ryan Seacrest read the official results. "I can't even. Oh, my God. Three years," Glover said, referring to her previous attempts at the crown in seasons nine and 11. After hugging nearly everyone onstage, Glover sang what will be her debut single "I Am Beautiful." So fitting because she really is.
The rest of the two-hour show was pretty drama-less, too. Highlights included The Band Perry's performance of "Done" with former Idol contestant Janelle Arthur, Jordin Sparks dissing The Voice, seeing Keith Urban sing along with Frankie Valli on "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and watching Mariah Carey try to fool the world into thinking she was singing.
