"Waterproof Mascara" is so country. And it's so Sheryl Crow. And it's so Brad Paisley. Really, it's like the trifecta of country songs. The single-mom ballad on Crow's upcoming Feels Like Home album was co-written by Paisley. "I made Brad Paisley write a chick song about being a single mom," Crow told the Washington Post. The lyrics are pretty heartbreaking -- enough so that you actually should be wearing waterproof mascara when you listen to "Waterproof Mascara." It's about a boy asking his mom all kinds of questions and wondering why all his friends have daddies. "There's things you shouldn't see when you're a kid/That's why I wear waterproof mascara/'Cause it won't run like his daddy did." She has been out playing this song and others off the album at radio stations across the country, which she described as being very Coal Miner's Daughter. Referring to the movie about Loretta Lynn and her husband, Crow says, "It really is like the scene where Doo zips up Loretta's dress and she runs in with her new acetate, her 45, and says, 'Here's my new record,' and she plays something on air, shakes a few hands and leaves," Crow said. "It really is a throwback to that, and it's the most organic thing I've done in years."
