I couldn't care less that Taylor Swift and Britney Spears were spotted wearing the same dress recently. What I care more about is how every time Swift tries something new, she invents a trend. This time, it's a tunic top over a floor-length maxi skirt. That used to be a style no-no because it would create too much length -- even for someone as tall as Swift. But she had the clever idea to belt the tunic. So, voila, it becomes more tank-like and therefore the perfect complement to her long lace skirt. To steal Swift's look, you can get the exact slip dress with the ruffled hem at Free People for $88. And you can get a similar lace maxi skirt and skinny leather belt anywhere. And then, maybe you could borrow the hat from Carly Simon. I just like the way Swift can take a casual afternoon look and give it a twist that dresses it up a little more than everyone else. Even Spears.
