Brad Paisley: "Nothing Changes Things Like Art"

Brad Paisley's message for the Future Country Songwriters of America is a simple one.

"What I would like to say to them is: We have to do these things. I just think that if music completely becomes nothing more than everybody trying to outdo one another, then we will be living in a dark time," he said in a recent interview. "Nothing changes things like art, you know?"

Paisley's latest single, "I Can't Change the World," is a great example of how the art of songwriting has changed over the years. It's all about how life ain't pretty and Jesus is looking down on the madness, but as crazy as the world may get, He will be there for you. It reminds me a little bit of Garth Brooks' "The Change" from 1996. Which reminds me how much I love country music with a message other than "you're hot."

I think Paisley feels the same way because he's in the process of making a movie out of his song. In an interview with radio stations KFRG-FM and KXFG-FM in Riverside-San Bernardino, he said he's going to start filming this month.

"It's much larger than a music video. It's something that's very ambitious," he said. "The idea of making a feature film about this theme is really appealing to me because it's much larger than even a song. ... We live in this interconnected world where, in real time, you know what happened in the Italy train wreck and you know about a tsunami in Indonesia. And instead of connecting us all, it feels like it isolates us. It feels like the 24-hour news cycle has made it completely overwhelming."

At the end of the interview, Paisley added, "Truthfully, the journey we're all on is to figure out how to live in this age of too much information and how to make a difference."
