If you never listened to one single country song in your life and then you read this story from Entertainment Weekly, you'd think that all the artists do is pick fights. The story is a timeline of things country singers said this year, who it pissed off and what the ramifications are.
But the bigger picture? It
really does make the genre look like a bunch of sixth graders. Without naming names, check out some of the things artists
have said about one another since January:
"Well, that's because you don't buy records anymore, jackass."
favorite compliment ever is when someone says, 'I hate country music, but I love your music.'"
"I don't agree with
any artist bashing another artist."
"By now, I think I've heard every line there is to hear about a truck."
me when I tell you that nobody gives a shit what you think."
"But I'm tired of folks messing with my country music."
sure there are people playing country that are doing it well, but they're just not getting the attention that the shittier
"There's some good music, good songwriting and good artists out there, but there's really no country stuff
"When songs make me wanna throw up, it makes me ashamed to even be in the same genre as those songs."
what I mean? It's like, what ever happened to the concept that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all?
always tell my kids if they don't like something, they can think it, but they can't say it. And for God's sake, they cannot
Tweet it, Instagram it or Vine it.
If there is a silver lining in this big, ugly, contentious country cloud, it's
that for the most part, the artists are criticizing the music. There's that. But, yeah, it would be great if all the artists
would just get along.
