I haven't been following the 2014 Winter Olympics like I should. What I am doing, though, is following the country artists who are following the Olympics in Sochi, Russia. So when The Band Perry tweeted on Monday (Feb. 10), "Rooting for ya @staceycookusa!!! #GoTeamUSA," I wondered how and why they were behind that one particular alpine ski racer.
It turns out, Cook knows her country music. Maybe she's a diehard fan, or maybe she just digs this one song. But when The Band Perry saw Cook and her fellow U.S. Olympic ski team members Jacqueline Wiles and Laurenne Ross covering their hit song "Better Dig Two," it seems like they loved it.
The Band Perry posted a link to the video of the cover song, saying, "WOW!!! @staceycookusa and #TeamUSA cover "Better Dig Two"!"
You can only see 16 seconds of the song, but that's all you need to hear to know these girls are just as talented off the slopes. Ross is on lead vocals and playing a guitar, Cook is playing a small guitar and Wiles is shaking maracas.
Cook captioned the video: "Force day off at #sochi2014 means #teamusa band practice inspired by @thebandperry. Better Dig Two performed by @lalalaurenne @jankylilj and me!!!"
After that video went up, TMZ Sports was reporting the band had already been in contact with the skiers about the possibility of bringing them onstage to perform the song at one of their upcoming shows.
Once the ski teams get home from Sochi, The Band Perry will have a string of about eight shows throughout the Midwest and the South before they head overseas to Dublin. And I'll bet their fans would love to see the skiers -- The Band Sochi, maybe? -- join the country singers for a song or two.
