Tim McGraw is the first to acknowledge that his first book is unlikely to win any literary prizes, but that wasn't one of the goals in the first place. Aimed directly at fans, Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors: This Is Ours is being released to shed some light on the creative process that resulted in the new album, Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors. Both the album and book arrive in stores Tuesday (Nov. 26).
CMT Most Wanted Live this Friday (Nov. 22) to talk about his new projects, including the video for the album track,
"She's My Kind of Rain." Immediately following, the world premiere of the video takes place during the special, Tim McGraw
in London: Making the Video, hosted by CMT's Katie Cook.
McGraw's high media visibility is just part of the promotional
push leading up to the release of his book and album. A 90-minute film documentary on McGraw
and the album will be featured Monday (Nov. 25) on AMC Theater screens in 21 cities throughout the U.S.
book, compiled with Martin Huxley, is a lavish, 176-page book featuring commentary from McGraw and his longtime band members,
with additional observations from producer Byron Gallimore, engineer Julian King and others who work closely with the singer.
(An exclusive excerpt from the book is featured in the January/February issue of Country Music Today magazine, on newsstands
"The whole idea behind the book is to kind of give you a vested interest, I guess, in the music that we did for
this record," McGraw tells CMT News. "There's a little bit of history with the band and myself and some of the things that
I've done, but the meat of the book is about us touring on the road and how we recorded in the studio at Allaire Studios up
in New York."
In supervising the packaging design of his previous CD, Set
This Circus Down, McGraw noted his fascination with the gatefold covers of the vinyl albums he bought as a child.
In a sense, the book is a larger companion piece to the CD booklet for Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors. He hopes
the new book will maximize the fans' overall experience when listening to the new album. "It really does flow with the music,"
he says. "It's almost like you can listen to the music and look through this book at the same time. It really does put you
in a place -- and that's what music is supposed to do. This can kind of enhance that kind of feeling, I guess."
