Tim McGraw Celebrates Chart Topper 14
Singer talks about tour, Sesame Street and new commercials
When songwriter Aimee Mayo found out that Tim McGraw was recording "My Best Friend," a song she had crafted with her friend, Bill Luther, the moment almost had dire consequences.

"Tim called me on the phone the day he cut this, and I almost had a wreck," she said during a Music Row party Thursday to celebrate the tune's No. 1 success.

Mayo, who is one third of the hit-making team that wrote Lonestar's "Amazed," tearfully told McGraw he had "made a major dream come true" by including "My Best Friend" on his multi-platinum A Place in the Sun album.

"I used to go out and wait at Tower for your records," she said. "I'd be there, like, getting them out of the box, and it felt so good to go in there and be on it this time."

Although Mayo has been on a No. 1 roll lately, "My Best Friend" is the first for Luther, who's been writing in Nashville for about 12 years. McGraw said the writers gave him one of his favorite hits.

"From the first time I heard it, I felt like I had sat down and wrote it," McGraw told country.com. "Not being a songwriter, it's great to have a song that hits you like that ... that you can sing it like you mean every word of it. I've been lucky to have a lot of those songs but none that hits that close to home."

McGraw has repeatedly said he's singing the song to his best friend, wife Faith Hill, who was also on hand to celebrate her husband's 14th No. 1 song. During the party, the couple cooked up a surprise for producer Byron Gallimore, who was celebrating a birthday. A belly dancer showed up and performed for a slightly embarrassed Gallimore while Tim, Faith and the rest of the crowd watched.

In other McGraw news, the singer has just shot a new Budweiser commercial, this time with his father, former professional baseball player Tug McGraw. He also bragged about a new Pepsi commercial featuring Hill that will debut during the Academy Awards on Sunday. The McGraws will be seen together April 5 performing on Sesame Street, an appearance that was a big hit with their daughters, Maggie and Gracie.

"We have a tape of it, so we've already watched with the girls, and they loved it," McGraw said. "Of course, I had a cold. I'm not the most in-tune singer to start with, but trying to sing with Elmo -- that'll really kill you."

The singer added that, despite earlier reports, a rumored McGraw-Hill tour has not yet been confirmed, although the couple would like to play together. However, McGraw has joined his wife on "Let's Make Love," a cut from Hill's Breathe.

"I've sung harmony with her on her single, and she's sung harmony with me on my single, but this is the first real duet we've ever done," McGraw said. "We're going to do a video for it, so I hope they release it as a single."

McGraw will hit the road as part of the George Strait Music Festival beginning April 29, and he's already back in the studio working on his sixth album.
