Underwood previewed songs from her third album, Play On, set for release on Nov. 3. Prior to the taping, the Oklahoma native talked to CMT's Allison Demarcus about what it feels like to introduce her new music.
"There's a lot of reasons tonight's going to be different," Underwood said of the taping. "We're playing new music for the first time. ... We're doing four songs that we've never done before in front of anybody. We've just done them in our little rehearsal room. That's really exciting. And it's very intimate, you know. There's just like a hundred people there."
Although she's excited about her new album, she still hasn't tired of singing her early hits such as "Before He Cheats" and "Jesus, Take the Wheel."
"I love those songs, so getting to sing those is truly a blessing," she said. "Songs that mean something to people, I mean, I'd sing those all day. People can listen to them and ... feel a certain way or think about life in a certain way. I get to remind myself of how great everything is. So, yeah, I'm lucky to get to sing those songs every day."
Unveiling new material is more challenging than performing songs that are familiar to the fans.
"I will be nervous tonight," she admitted. "I don't think we've ever done it this way. We've never just introduced four songs all at once. I remember doing 'So Small,' off the last album, for the first time in concert. It's kind of like everything else has had a TV moment."
Underwood was pleased that her fan club members are among the first to hear the new songs.
"It's really important to me that we do as much for the fan club as possible because these guys are the true blue," she said.
Underwood's performance on Invitation Only premieres in December on CMT.
