Taylor Swift accepted her first two Grammys more than an hour before the CBS telecast of Sunday night's (Jan. 31) awards show. The wins for her hit, "White Horse," were announced during the pre-telecast ceremony at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Accepting the trophy for best female country vocal performance, Swift said, "This is my first Grammy! This is a Grammy! I'm in awe of the people I was nominated against. I'm so happy!"
She and co-writer Liz Rose share the award for best country song. They're also nominated for overall song of the year for "You Belong With Me."
"Liz started writing with me years ago when she had no reason to," Swift noted. "I didn't even have a label then."
Swift is nominated in six other categories at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards. However, she didn't win for best pop vocal collaboration with vocals. Her recording with Colbie Caillat on "Breathe" was nominated in the category, although Caillat won for another track -- her collaboration with Jason Mraz on "Lucky."
Steve Wariner was also in Los Angeles to accept his Grammy for best country instrumental performance for "Producer's Medley," a track from his album, Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins. Before achieving success as a solo artist, Wariner played bass in Atkins' band during the late '70s. The medley consists of songs Atkins produced for other artists.
"I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the wonderful Chet Atkins," Wariner said. "He gave me my start."
