Rascal Flatts have no shortage of fans, but they attracted at least two additional admirers when they filmed an episode of the CBS drama, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In an interview with CMT Insider, cast members Marg Helgenberger and George Eads had nothing but nice things to say about their experience with band members Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus.
"These guys are so amazing," said Helgenberger, who portrays investigator Catherine Willows on the series. "They're so down to earth and sweet, fun, cute and funny. They're real naturals."
Eads, who has the role of investigator Nick Stokes, echoes the actress' thoughts.
"They're really good sports," he said. "I think they were fans of the show before the came on. They were very familiar with it, as I'm familiar with their music. I know they have a big fan base, and I think it will maybe bring a bigger audience to the show. That's kind of the idea."
No one involved in the series would reveal details about the plot, although Eads says it involves one of the band members getting injured onstage.
"We kind of wind our way through the band members, interviewing them and trying to find out who may have had a vendetta out for another band member," he said.
The producers of CSI contacted Rascal Flatts' management company to see if they were interested in making a guest appearance on the popular series. The band members were in Los Angeles to appear on a late night talk show when they met the CSI executives.
"We went down there, sat down, kind of got an outline of the story and just talked about what we wanted to do, what their ideas were," LeVox says. "We were thrilled to death that they called."
Rooney says it was a perfect situation for the band members to get a taste of acting.
"It was really cool because we get to play our parts, but the drama stuff was really interesting," he explains. "We've never done this stuff before, so it's been fun to play ourselves but play different emotions within ourselves towards each other -- and aggressive ones, at times."
The band members expressed interest in possibly tackling other acting roles in the future.
"I think that it's something all of us would enjoy doing," DeMarcus said. "Our main focus is getting out on the road and making records, but as we have time and time goes on and we have more opportunities that come up, we'll probably do a little bit more of it. I certainly enjoyed my experiences. I think we all did."
LeVox says he enjoyed working on the production set, too, but he jokes, "Thank goodness we don't have to rely on making a living off at that. We're better musicians than we are actors -- I think."
