Pistol Annies Vault to Top of Albums Chart
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood Conspire for No. 1 Song

There's a new No. 1 on both Billboard country charts this week. Can you handle it?

Up from nowhere comes the delectable trio, Pistol Annies, to seize the album peak with Hell on Heels. (Be still, my ancient heart.) Not to be outdone, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood wave triumphantly atop the singles ranking with "Remind Me."

See what happens when good people work together.

Pistol Annies -- which, as you may know, consists of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley -- sold 41,963 albums its first week out, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a number sufficient to bump into second place the No. 1 album from last week and the week before, Luke Bryan's Tailgates & Tanlines.

If you're a student of liner notes, you may recall that Presley and Mark D. Sanders co-wrote the delightfully slutty "Knocked Up" that Heidi Newfield recorded on her 2008 debut album, What Am I Waiting For.

OK, on to other matters.

Apart from Hell on Heels -- and don't you just absolutely pivot on that image? -- the week's new albums are Sunny Sweeney's Concrete (No. 7) and the various-artists grab bag O Brother, Where Art Thou?: Bona Fide Rarities and Unreleased Tracks (No. 66).

Icon: Vince Gill returns to battle at No. 74, propelled there, perhaps, by the entry of a Vince Gill single. (See next paragraph.)

There are four new songs: Reba McEntire's "Somebody's Chelsea" (No. 55), Steel Magnolia's "Bulletproof" (No. 57), Gill's "Threaten Me With Heaven" (No. 58) and Chris Young's "You" (No. 60).

The No. 3 through No. 5 albums are Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party, Eric Church's Chief and the Eli Young Band's Life at Best, in that order.

Completing the Top 5 singles sheaf are Jake Owen's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," Dierks Bentley's "Am I the Only One," Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter's "You and Tequila" and
Rodney Atkins' "Take a Back Road."

Let's just stop there before the excitement overwhelms us.
