Kenny Rogers
has signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records and is working with producer
Dann Huff on an album to be released later this year. Rogers made the announcement Wednesday night (May 9) during the first
of two sold-out performances as this year's artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville.
On WB's sister label, Reprise Records, he gained national prominence in 1967 as the lead singer of the First Edition with
the pop hit, "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)." With the First Edition, Rogers charted his first
two country singles in 1969 with "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "Reuben James." After a successful string of solo
hits in the '70s on United Artists, Liberty and RCA, he returned to Reprise in the early '90s and later recorded for Dreamcatcher
and Capitol. During Wednesday's concert at the museum's Ford Theater, Rogers was joined by special guests
Billy
Currington and
Billy Dean.
