Kellie Pickler owes a lot to fan-voted TV shows, launching her career after being an American Idol finalist and, more recently, winning the Dancing With the Stars competition.

After serving as a presenter on Wednesday night's (June 5) fan-voted CMT Music Awards in Nashville, she talked about the power of the people in deciding the winners of such competitions.
"I think it's great because it's the fans that enable us to do what we love in the first place, so it's really neat when they have control over it all," she said backstage. "It makes it more fun. They can be involved."
Although several American Idol judges are leaving following the show's latest season, she says she has no idea who will be sitting at the judges' table during the upcoming episodes.
"They haven't asked me," she said. "They probably would never ask me. I don't know. It would be fun."
Instead of thinking about any future endeavors in the reality TV world, Pickler is concentrating on a new album to be released later this year.
"We just released my new single, 'Someone Somewhere Tonight,' to country radio," she said. "So I'm trying to finish this album so I can get it out this fall."
The North Carolina native's single has a strong traditional influence, but she has an open mind about what constitutes country music these days.
"I think everyone's definition of country is different," she said. "And that's great. I think there's room for it all. There's room for all different types of country music."
