After a record-setting 89-week climb, Hunter Hayes' self-titled debut CD has finally reached the top of Billboard's country chart, buoyed there, it appears, by the June 18 release of the deluxe edition of the album.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Hunter Hayes sold 39,905 copies this past week to push the album's grand sales total to 831,766 units.
Billboard says the album's 89-week trek to the summit shatters the previous slow-climb record set in 1999 by the Dixie Chicks when their Wide Open Spaces made a similar ascent in 51 weeks.
On the songs side, Jake Owen's "Anywhere With You" slides into No. 1 on the country airplay rankings.
There are four new albums to acknowledge: Danielle Bradbery's The Voice: The Complete Season 4 Collection (No. 6), the Swon Brothers' The Voice: The Complete Season 4 Collection (No. 18), the eponymous LoCash Cowboys (No. 25) and Slaid Cleaves' Still Fighting the War (No. 54).
Returning to the chart are Owen's Endless Summer (No. 65), Blackberry Smoke's The Whipporwill (No. 68) and Granger Smith's Dirt Road Driveway (No. 70).
Making their debut on the songs list are Kelly Clarkson's "Tie It Up" (No. 52) and Miranda Lambert's "All Kinds of Kinds" (No. 57).
Dakota Bradley's "Somethin' Like Somethin'" re-enters at No. 58.
Parading in behind Hayes in the Top 5 albums cluster are Florida Georgia Line's Here's to the Good Times (last week's No. 1), Blake Shelton's Based on a True Story, Darius Rucker's True Believer and the various artist collection Now That's What I Call Country: Volume 6, in that order.
The No. 2 through No. 5 songs are Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party," Brad Paisley's "Beat This Summer," Shelton's "Boys 'Round Here," featuring Pistol Annies (last week's No. 1), and The Band Perry's "Done."
Did you know Lambert's new single, "All Kinds of Kinds," was recorded by its co-writer, Don Henry, for his 2001 album, Live at the Bluebird? Henry's most famous song to date is Kathy Mattea's Grammy-winning "Where've You Been" from 1989, which he wrote with Mattea's husband, Jon Vezner.
