Earlier this year, The Voice winner Cassadee Pope began recording her debut country album. Now her first single "Wasting All These Tears" is gaining nationwide momentum every day. The singer says she's enjoyed exploring new aspects of her musical style.
"I feel so incredible about the album," she told CMT Hot 20 Countdown. "I created it with [producer] Dan Huff mostly. ... Me and Dan just had a great time in the studio. We had this chemistry that was undeniable, and we were on the same page constantly throughout the entire process."
Huff, who has also worked with artists like Keith Urban, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts, gave Pope a great deal of guidance, according to the singer. Specifically, she says Huff gave her album a unique flow and taught her to maintain her vocal strength.
"Being a singer takes discipline because it's a part of your body," she said. "You don't want to abuse it. You don't want to wear it out -- because that's your livelihood.
"I don't want to be worried about blowing out my voice every night, but I think it's great to have songs that stick out for being vocally challenging like 'Wasting All These Tears.' I think that's why it's so special -- because it is a hard song to sing. If every song was like that, then nothing would stick out as a really special moment."
