Randy Houser's last single may have had him "Runnin' Outta Moonlight," but the singer is hardly running out of steam as he continues to charge to the top of country's hit list.
The song became his second consecutive No. 1 single just weeks ago, and earlier this week, he gathered family, friends and industry VIPs to celebrate the tune's success at Nashville's Adventure Science Center -- the very spot where they shot the single's music video.
The hot streak is a long time coming. Sure, Houser has long enjoyed respect and credibility as a songwriter, singer and all-around good guy on the Nashville scene. His previous albums, Anything Goes and They Call Me Cadillac, were loved by critics and fans.
But with this latest album, How Country Feels, it's suddenly different. The stars have aligned even more perfectly for Houser, and he's finally coming into his own. He even cut his hair and jazzed up his wardrobe. He doesn't just sound like a country superstar, he looks like one, too.
And the songs on this album aren't just great songs. They're undeniable hits. The moment you hear them, you can't help but get that fuzzy feeling and think, "This is a smash."
And that's exactly what Houser told me he felt the first time he heard "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" when he was returning to the studio to finish up recording the new album
"I heard the demo literally, I think, the day before we went in, and I just knew," he said. "I was like, 'Well, there's a big ol' hit right there!' ... I knew I better snatch it up while I had the chance."
Dallas Davidson co-wrote the song with Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley. Recalling the first time he heard Houser sing the song, Davidson said, "That boy can literally sing the phone book. He can go 'blah, blah, blah,' and it sounds like a hit when Randy's singing it."
Houser's new single from How Country Feels is titled "Goodnight Kiss."
