Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, George Strait and Taylor Swift will compete for the ACM Awards' top prize -- entertainer of the year -- on April 6 in Las Vegas. The ACM nominations were announced through social media on Wednesday morning (Jan. 29).

Bryan won entertainer of the year in 2013, following Swift's back-to-back wins. Strait, who is retiring from touring this year, claimed the trophy for 1989. Bryan and Shelton are returning as show hosts in 2014.

With seven nods each, Lambert and Tim McGraw share the most nominations this year. Along with a female vocalist nod, Lambert is up for single and song of the year ("Mama's Broken Heart") and nominated twice in the vocal event category -- as part of the Pistol Annies on Shelton's "Boys 'Round Here" and "We Were Us" with Keith Urban.

McGraw received seven nominations, including a video nod for "Highway Don't Care" with Swift and Urban. As an artist and producer, he is nominated twice for single and vocal event ("Highway Don't Care"), as well as album (Two Lanes of Freedom).

A few unexpected names appear on the male and female vocalist ballot this year. Lee Brice is making his first appearance in the category, which he shares with Jason Aldean, Bryan, Shelton and Urban. Sheryl Crow also arrives in the female category, along with Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Swift and Carrie Underwood.

Musgraves' "Blowin' Smoke" and Underwood's "Two Black Cadillacs" also received video nominations, joining The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two," Brice's "I Drive Your Truck," Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart" and McGraw's "Highway Don't Care" with Swift and Urban.

The nominees for vocal duo are Big & Rich, Dan + Shay ("19 You + Me"), Florida Georgia Line, Love and Theft and Thompson Square. Meanwhile, the vocal group nominees are the Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, The Band Perry and the Zac Brown Band.

In addition, Gary Allan's "Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)" claimed a spot on the song ballot, while Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel" is in the single and song categories.

The new artist nominees will be announced at a later date.

Taking place April 6 in Las Vegas, the ACM Awards will air live on CBS.
