Jennifer Nettles and David Nail occupy the chart peaks this time around -- and there's not much going on down below.
That Girl, Nettles' freshman CD, perches for the second week on the summit of Billboard's top country albums list, while Nail's "Whatever She's Got" leapfrogs from No. 3 to No. 1 on the airplay rankings.
Feel free to slap your forehead in amazement when we tell you that Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas is still selling albums -- 950 copies the past week, according to Nielsen Soundscan, and 749,404 since its release 13 weeks ago.
But that's OK. If Luke Bryan's Spring Break: Here to Party is still charting -- and it is -- who are we to begrudge one more seasonal anomaly?
Duck the Halls is at No. 48, Spring Break at No. 56.
Wave hello to two new albums -- the multi-artist package Now That's What I Call Country Ballads 2 (No. 9) and Jason Eady's Daylight/Dark (No. 45).
Alan Jackson's Precious Memories: Volume II pops back on at No. 49.
Jake Owen boasts the only new song this week -- "Beachin'" at No. 55.
Returning to action are Blackjack Billy's "Get Some" (No. 59) and Dylan Scott's "Makin' This Boy Go Crazy" (No. 60).
The No. 2 through No. 5 albums, in descending order, are Florida Georgia Line's Here's to the Good Times, Bryan's Crash My Party, Rosanne Cash's The River & the Thread and, making a giant leap from No. 15 to No. 5 after her Grammy performance and best country album win, Kacey Musgraves' Same Trailer Different Park.
Last week, Musgraves' album sold 3,991 copies, this week 9,845. Her total to date is 315,354.
Rounding out the Top 5 most-played songs cluster are Bryan's "Drink a Beer," Cole Swindell's "Chillin' It," Eric Paslay's "Friday Night" and Zac Brown Band's "Sweet Annie," last week's No. 1.
Back before the continents separated, I suggested in this column a harmless diversion called "Title Tales" in which the object is to hook together two or more titles from the current songs chart to tell or imply a story.
Let's have another go at it. For example, "Whatever She's Got/Get Me Some of That" or "Doin' It Right/Makin' This Boy Go Crazy" or "Yeah/I Got a Car/See You Tonight."
