CMT All-Time Top 40: Artists Choice has kicked off its countdown of the 40 most influential artists who ever lived. Chosen by country stars themselves, the year-long series features interviews with legendary singers and musicians as well as many of today's hottest acts.
The artists chosen for the list were not all from the country genre, so just about anything is possible.
On Saturday (March 29) CMT Hot 20 Countdown will reveal the artist in the No. 38 position -- a multi-award winning male superstar. See if you can guess who he is:
"He'll take chances in his music," said Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley about our mystery star. "It's changed over the years, and I think that's an important lesson for us, as well, to constantly push ourselves and mix it up and not let the fans get too bored of us."
"The guy knows a hit song," The Band Perry's Kimberly Perry agreed. "And not only a hit song, but one that's gonna last his entire career, lifetime and all of our lifetimes."
Along those same lines, Brantley Gilbert marveled at how the star keeps each song feeling fresh, no matter how many times fans have heard it.
"Oh, man, he's a pro," Gilbert said. "He's not worried about a thing up there. He's right at home. He can work a crowd like nobody's business. He's been in the game a long time, but he's singing songs that are years and years and years old that never get old."
Sara Evans, on the other hand, thinks there is more than just music to No. 38's magic.
"He's very, very good at playing the bad boy in terms of his songs selection and then how he portrays himself," she said. "Or maybe he is a bad boy. I don't know, but he's awesome. He's awesome. He just has it all. He's the entire package."
This "bad boy" will join the artists already revealed at No. 39 (Buck Owens) and No. 40 (Aerosmith, Alan Jackson and Carrie Underwood).
Find out who will take the No. 38 spot Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT, and don't miss the CMT artist countdown to each week on CMT Hot 20 Countdown.
