If the best remedy for a successful awards show is a spoonful of sugar and a pinch of spice, perhaps Blake Shelton and Shakira, his fellow mentor on The Voice, are just what the doctor ordered.

Double-dipping between his co-hosting duties with Luke Bryan, Shelton also shared Sunday evening's (April 6) 49th annual Academy of Country Music Awards spotlight with what may seem an unlikely singing partner. However, their country-infused duet "Medicine," a track from the Columbian bombshell's newest self-titled album, proved a healthy dose of musical cross-pollination as well as a seamless fit among the evening's performances.
Wearing a close-fitting, strapless red dress accessorized by black, thigh-high boots, the sexy singer was a striking presence next to the sharply-dressed Shelton in his black vest and tie paired with his familiar blue jeans. The eye-catching pair brought the dramatic nature of the song to life as they stepped away from their mic stands toward the end of the song, proceeding to sing the rest of the tune directly towards one another -- with Shakira running her hands through her hair for theatrics.
And though the two may be on opposing teams on The Voice, the pair ended their performance with a friendly hug.
"How lucky I am!" Shakira said earlier in the evening while walking the red carpet, obviously excited about sharing the stage with the evening's co-host and five-time nominee. She also revealed the track to be one of her favorite's from the record, a project also featuring her current No. 1 Billboard dance club duet with Rihanna, "Can't Remember to Forget You."
Shelton is nominated for five ACM awards including the night's top prize -- entertainer of the year -- alongside his wife Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, George Strait and Taylor Swift.
