"Give 'Em Hope," one of the new songs Cassadee Pope has recorded, isn't one she can easily toss into her set on the Tim McGraw tour. That's because the other singers on the track -- Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, The Band Perry, Toby Keith, Danielle Bradbery, Vince Gill, Thomas Rhett and Chris Young -- aren't on the tour with her.
That anthem is actually a massive group effort recorded to help the Big Machine Label Group's efforts to Outnumber Hunger. Almost half the proceeds from the song's sales will be donated to Feeding America to help benefit local food banks across the nation.
"To be on the same track with Reba and the others is so inspiring," Pope told me recently.
Another huge honor for Pope is opening concerts for McGraw this summer.
"It's so exciting to be on tour with someone I've been listening to for a long time," she said. "I've been a fan for a long time, so I'm just looking forward to learning by watching him perform."
So far, the biggest lesson she has learned about McGraw is that he makes everything look easy.
"He is such an incredible entertainer," she said. "He makes it look so effortless when he performs. And he really connects with the lyrics and doesn't worry so much about running around and losing breath where he doesn't need to. I can appreciate that because a lot of people think you need to jump up and down and run around the stage and kind of lose your breath and focus on entertaining people.
"But in reality, if you're somebody like Tim McGraw, you can just draw people in and connect with them by just making eye contact. It's that star quality that he has. You can't miss it."
