We've been waiting -- oh, so patiently -- for Carrie Underwood's new music. And, yes, we're willing to wait a little while longer because it will be worth the wait to and hear what she calls this "new version" of herself.
"It's just a progression, a different sound without losing myself in it," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm not taking some crazy musical departure from what I've done, but it definitely feels different. ... It will feel different, look different, sound different."
Underwood's evolution has actually been underway for a quite a while. The American Idol winner has been a master at maintaining a balance between good girl and bad girl in early hits such as "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats." Her last album, Blown Away, took her into uncharted territory as she explored even darker lyrics and storylines, including the title track and the deliciously vindictive "Two Black Cadillacs."
Underwood continues pushing the envelope in her musical journey. Her latest collaboration with Miranda Lambert on "Somethin' Bad" confirms that. I'm hoping she continues to show her sassy, more mischievous side on her own album.
When will we will be blessed with her new music? Underwood isn't saying, but she's been writing a lot and is getting ready to head into the studio to bring it all to life.
Patience is a virtue, and a virtue can't hurt us.
