Obviously, there will be Faith.
Tim McGraw has made it pretty clear in the last 8,000 or so interviews he's done that he thinks his wife Faith Hill has the very best voice in all of Nashville.
So, of course, when he sat down to choose a small handful of people to share the mic with on his upcoming album, he chose Hill.
Together Mr. and Mrs. McGraw sing track No. 8, "Meanwhile Back at Mama's," the current single off his Sundown Heaven Town album due out Sept. 16. It will have 13 tracks and the deluxe version will feature five more.
For track No. 5, "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools," McGraw chose his cousin Catherine Dunn to sing it with him. (Dunn's mom and McGraw's mom are sisters.) He's been performing the haunting ballad -- "I guess some things just don't mix like you hope" -- live with his tour opener Cassadee Pope while he's on the road this summer, but I'm so glad he recorded it with Dunn. There's something really moving about a song that keeps it in the family.
Then on the album's deluxe edition, there's Kid Rock. McGraw sings with him on track No. 15, "Lincoln Continentals and Cadillacs." Kid Rock ups the cool factor in any country song he's singing on, so this duet feels like a no-brainer. And then there's the added bonus of his ties to Detroit, where both Ford (the Lincoln Continental) and General Motors (the Cadillac) were born and raised.
And who knows? Maybe if McGraw makes a video for this one, they can add a line about Pontiac Bonnevilles, and he'll get to sit in the passenger seat of Kid Rock's 1964 Nudie Cohn car originally designed -- with 6-foot steer horns on the grill and a six-shooter gear shifter -- for Hank Williams Jr.
