Another Rape Reported at Country Concert
Michigan Police Investigating Attack at Faster Horses Festival
I hate that this trend has picked up steam, but another story has surfaced in Michigan newspapers about yet another rape at a country show. And this time, it was a gang rape.

A 25-year-old woman was separated from her friends in the parking lot of the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan, when she was leaving Tim McGraw's July 18 show at the Faster Horses Festival. She was allegedly attacked by three men.

Police said the rape was reported at 12:10 a.m. on July 19.

"She was attacked in the dark near the parking area, and there didn't happen to be anyone around in that parking area. She was taken to Allegiance (Health) where they checked for injuries, and a rape kit was done and sent to the Michigan State Police lab to check for DNA," the local police told MLive.com.

So far, McGraw hasn't made any official comment -- like Keith Urban did after a rape was reported at one of his shows near Boston on July 26 -- but I hope he does. Because I feel like the artists have the power to make some necessary changes. Although their responsibility is essentially to show up at the venue and perform, maybe if they put their collective feet down, get involved and take a stance, they can help turn the trend around.

"My team and I were horrified to learn of the events reported in Boston ... and our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected. This type of behavior stands in stark contrast to the spirit of our shows," Urban wrote after the story broke about Sean Murphy, 18, being arrested for the forcible rape of a 17-year-old girl on the amphitheater lawn at the show.

If more artists follow suit, maybe that will force some changes, such as police on amphitheater hills, less tolerance for out-of-control drinking and strict enforcement of the over-21 wristband policies.
