In the sharable spirit of Throwback Thursday (#TBT), check out this never-before-seen video of pop superstar Katy Perry and country newcomer Kacey Musgraves performing "Keep It to Yourself" on CMT Crossroads.
Although the Crossroads special aired June 13, "Keep It to Yourself" didn't make the original cut for broadcast. Songs that did make it to TV include "Merry Go 'Round," "Follow Your Arrow," "Roar" and "Teenage Dream."
"Keep It to Yourself" is Musgraves' current single and the fourth overall from her Grammy-winning debut album, Same Trailer Different Park.
Perry, whose breakout hit was called "I Kissed a Girl," said she appreciates Musgraves for pushing past the traditional boundaries of country music.
"I think that great songs supersede genres," she said in a face-to-face interview clip with her Crossroads co-star. "The first time I heard of Kacey Musgraves was on the Internet -- 'Merry Go 'Round.' I heard it and I was instantly mesmerized by your lyrical styles, and now you've won two Grammys.
"Thankfully, we're fans of each other's records, so even if we only have a couple days of rehearsal, we know the records because we've listened to them," she continued.
"Yeah, we have the building blocks and we can just shape it once we get in," replied Musgraves. "I think it's really cool that your band is going to be playing on some of my stuff and vice versa. It's just gonna be a mixed bag."
"And you have your cacti, and I have my palm trees -- Hollywood meets Nashville," noted Perry.
In the clip, Musgraves softly begins her story about getting over a breakup before her ex. As both bands lock into a slow groove, Perry and her powerful pipes jump right in.
Earlier this week, Musgraves began her stint as the opening act on Perry's Prismatic world tour.
"Keep It to Yourself" premiered Thursday (Aug. 14) at kaceymusgraves.cmt.com and katyperry.mtv.com. The video also debuted on CMT and the CMT Artists App. It can be seen Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 16-17) on CMT Hot 20 Countdown at 11 a.m. ET/PT.
