Tweets, tours, true friendship and a song about the Tin Man? You're gonna want to step inside the wonderful world of Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry.

There's that famous line The Wizard of Oz when heroine Dorothy finally makes it to the doorstep of the Great and Powerful: "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."

In a business often built with the help of smoke and mirrors, I'd normally argue that's a fair statement. But that's not the case with Musgraves and Perry. The two CMT Crossroads collaborators have formed a friendship and musical kinship that's the real deal.

What started off as simple mutual respect and fandom turned to mutual tweeting. The next thing you know, they're co-writing songs and touring together.

The song they've written relates to the famous book and film, Musgraves said in a recent interview with Billboard.

"I brought some ideas, and we actually ended up writing a pretty cool song," she said. "It's loosely based on Dorothy's version of The Wizard of Oz, her being in love with the Tin Man, but he didn't have a heart. And hopefully maybe something will happen with it down the road. Either way, it's cool to step out of my zone and write for somebody else."

Who knows? Maybe she'll have a monster pop hit on her hands in the near future. She's already snagged a No. 1 country hit for co-writing Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart." Musgraves also recently celebrated the platinum certification of her debut single, "Merry Go 'Round"

In the meantime, Musgraves and Perry can simply gal pal it up and enjoy each other's company on the road. Musgraves is currently opening Perry's Prismatic tour which plays Wednesday (Aug. 20) in Lincoln, Nebraska, before heading for shows in Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada.
