Florida Georgia Line moved from arenas and stadiums to get up close and personal with several hundred fans during Wednesday night's (Sept. 2) performance at one of Nashville's most historic music venues. The pop-up concert at the Exit/In was as part of CMT's new Instant Jam series.
A tweet from Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley was all it took for a line to form around the block by noon at the venue for wristbands to attend the surprise show.
The standing-room crowd was rewarded with a set list of smash hits from the duo's double-platinum debut album, Here's to the Good Times, including "Stay," "Get Your Shine On," "Round Here," "This Is How We Roll" and "Cruise." They highlighted the night with their current single, "Dirt," and other new material from their upcoming album, Anything Goes, arriving Oct. 14.
In operation since 1971, the Exit/In on Elliston Place near downtown Nashville, has featured numerous country artists, including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris and Jerry Reed. However, the venue built its reputation on eclectic bookings that have ranged from Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Jimmy Buffett, Muddy Waters, Buddy Rich and Freddie Hubbard to early tours by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Allman Brothers Band, Billy Joel, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Talking Heads.
Florida Georgia Line's concert was the second show recorded for Instant Jam. It premieres Oct. 17 on CMT.
Friday night in Athens, Georgia, Kenny Chesney and his band set played a similar in front of 500 fans at the Georgia Theatre. Instant Jam: Kenny Chesney premieres Sept. 27.
Each episode of Instant Jam features live performances and captures all the excitement and energy as artists reveal to fans how to score tickets to an exclusive show in their area while giving a behind-the-scenes look at the hours leading up to their concert.
