Chicken a la Vanderbilt

1 onion, finely sliced
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sliced mushrooms
8 thin slices ham
8 slices cooked chicken breast
1 cup cream
1 tablespoon paprika
Parmesan cheese

Cook onion in butter for 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and saute. Spread onions and mushrooms in a 9 x 13 baking dish. Add ham. Top each piece with a slice of chicken and enough cream to cover. Sprinkle Parmesan and paprika on top. Place in a 350° oven until brown on top, 15 minutes.
